Looking to the future for innovation……what did this year’s Landscape Show have to offer!
As a landscape design practice who sets innovation as their benchmark for all projects, trade shows such as the Landscape show, become a vital platform for understanding what the future holds within the industry. As designers we are always looking for new materials and techniques to realise our ideas, particularly as we work on very complex schemes ranging from roof terrace design to large country estate design.
This year led to some interesting discoveries of which three stood out from the normal products, either because of their innovation or design credentials.
TALENTI –Range of Luxury contemporary Italian Garden Furniture
A new range of external Italian furniture which at long last looks the part. This stunning range would suit any of our London rooftop gardens perfectly, particularly the CLEO collection which would look at home in anyone’s living room, with soft furnishings which are highly resilient and suitable for outdoor use. One of our biggest bugbear’s with many outdoor lounges on the market is lack of real comfort- and you have to store the cushions. This collection combines contemporary design with the comfort you would expect from a sofa in your lounge.
ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE – Beautifully crafted Oak Garden Tables
When considering a new dining terrace within a large country estate design, often we like to reflect the character of the property. Architectural heritage’s oak table range offers a stunning rustic dining set which very much suits the scale of larger terraces inherent with this type of project. They also have a fantastic range of copper planters.
GIFAS – Innovative solution to hiding ugly services!
Whilst not as pretty as the prior items, this is right up there in terms of ingenuity. Hiding unsightly services and making them easy to access is essential on projects where space is tight such as roof terrace design or wherelots of services are required and you need them tidied away such as a swimming pool within a large country estate design. GIFAS system is highly commendable with its ease of use and robust construction. As landscape architects we think this is a great solution solver.
These products, together with many more great examples present at the 2015 Landscape show, highlight the importance of getting out of the office once and a while, and finding what is out there in terms of innovative materials and features which allow us designers to push the boundaries.
