Aralia were commissioned to design the gardens of a historical Walled Garden to complement the installation of a new Pool House building. Aralia worked closely with the clients – who had a strong vision for this beautiful area of their country estate – collaborating and building upon the client’s vision, to bring this stunning walled garden back to its former glory.
The 8-foot-high original red brick walls hugely dominated this Walled Garden, as did the introduction of the sizeable Pool House, making one of Aralia’s major design objectives to overcome the dominance of the walls. Introducing enough greenery here, with a large enough impact, softened the whole garden space so that it wasn’t just a mix of hard landscaping materials.
The location of the new Pool House allowed for large terraces to be placed opposite to its entrance. These terraces are to be used for outdoor dining and seating, in addition to a beautiful terrace adjacent to the large natural pond. Further, Aralia created a secondary garden area to one side of the pool house. In this area we carefully designed a pathway to sit alongside mature topiary pieces, under beautiful metal arches covered in climbing Jasmine, and leading to a new intimate seating area. Careful thought was also given to the views out into the Walled Garden from inside the Pool House, and placement of stone sculptures & urns has been included to enhance these views out.
The Pool House garden has now been installed and Aralia has been asked back to design the area surrounding the natural wildlife pond in the same walled garden. Aralia were responsible for concept creation through to design detail and site monitoring of the build, and full installation of the soft landscaping.
