Courtyard Gardens, by nature, are often small, and this makes them, we think, rather special. Sometimes a Courtyard Garden may be part of a larger garden, or the space may be the only garden - therefore in this instance, the space would have to be used very effectively to provide everything, within a limited area. Often designing a Courtyard Garden can be very challenging, with the resulting garden space very often being highly intensive.

There are many features which work extremely well within a courtyard space including:

  • Pergola’s which can be covered in gorgeous climbers to maximise the use of space vertically
  • Walls/Fencing can be used to define the space, with or without climbers, or dramatic planting strategically placed to contrast with the boundary
  • Water Features are often seen as an essential part of a Courtyard Garden providing both sound and visual movement
  • Fragrant Planting can be most effective within an enclosed space
  • Lighting can often play a major role, allowing the user to view the garden at all times of the day, and providing another dimension to your home
